Merry Christmas! Thursday, December 25, 2014

HAGGAI:

520 B.C. Haggai called the people to finish the Temple.  The book is addressed to all the people to encourage them to rebuild.  But specifically Zerubbabel, the governor and Joshua, the high priest are addressed.

A verse of particular interest is when he relays the rebuke from God.
"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you bought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the Lord Almighty. "Because of my house which remains  a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house..." (1:9)

REVELATION 16:

Armageddon is reaching its completion as the seven angels pour out their bowls of affliction and total destruction occurs.
...The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed...Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail...(16:17-21)

JOURNAL:

Merry Christmas! It is actually strange to read such ominous verses on a day of celebration.  However in many ways it is a sober reminder that God is the only permanence in our lives. I do love the good things in my life though.  Laughs, good movies, popcorn, christmas lights...after such a good day the last thing I want to think about is that its all temporary, but there is a certain beauty about the fact that each day has it's own life and then it ends.  It is a gift, it's not meant to last forever, it's not meant to savor and hold onto. It is meant to be enjoyed. God will give us more, that's why I trust him.  So tonight, I will enjoy, I won't think too much or wish it could last.  I'll simply thank God for the miracle of life, my family, my friends and the God who loves me.

Merry Christmas!!
