MARCH 7, 2017

“I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away. What other answer would suffice?”
― C.S. Lewis

DEUTERONOMY 3-4

29But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. 31For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.(3:29-31)

MARK 11:20-33

22“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23“Trulyf I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” [26]g

JOURNAL

The previous verse from Mark is one of the most misused and misunderstood verses in the Bible. Jesus is NOT saying that whatever you ask of God, he will give you. If you go to God in faith and ask, he will give you things that will be good for you, that will grow you in your faith. God will not give us things that will ultimately be harmful to our faith and joy. This is where verses taken out of context can be used and manipulated for human, sinful purposes.

Early this morning I woke up with a very clear vision. I saw the day as a blank canvas. God simply said here is your day and what you do today is the painting that will be displayed. I have given you these tools and gifts for you to use. You can seek me and my direction in order to make the painting a masterpiece or you can go your own way and make of it what you want. Either way...your actions will paint a picture. What do you want that picture to show and what do you want that picture to be...of me or of you?

7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
