“Simple, genuine goodness is the best capital to found the business of this life upon. It lasts when fame and money fail, and is the only riches we can take out of this world with us.”

DEUTERONOMY 1-2
29Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”
32In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord your God, 33who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.(2:29-33)

MARK 11:1-19
15On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’c ? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’d ”
JOURNAL
I love that Jesus went in and disrupted the "business" of the church. I love that he called it for what it was a "den of robbers". It was no longer a sacred place for "all nations"...all people. This is the real kingdom that Jesus was trying to "teach" them about.
I really wonder if in all our striving and "business" if we truly have not missed the heart of God. In our obsession to secure financial freedom have we missed spiritual freedom? In our quest to be "right" have we erred and traveled a path not to the heart of God but rather further into our own fear and selfishness?
It is hard not to see the news everyday and really wonder how far have we strayed from the sermon on the mount and the true heart of God. The business of money and religion were one of the things that jaded my view of God at an early age. If I am honest...it hasn't really changed that much.

19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,c your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are unhealthy,d your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
