“Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”
― Vince Lombardi Jr.
5Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. 6And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”.(34:5-7)EXODUS 34-36
MATTHEW 23:1-22
8“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11The greatest among you will be your servant. 12For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

JOURNAL
The description of God is a description of perfection. To fully understand this is to realize that obedience to this God changes the ambition of the heart. To embrace this God is to embrace a pursuit of perfection in all things. Not just in our jobs or sports or money it is a pursuit of perfect love, service, forgiveness, compassion. It is a pursuit of perfection while at the same time accepting that we are flawed and will never attain it. It is living with this humility while relentlessly pursuing perfection.
Although I admittedly get tired of the praise heaped upon him...Nick Saban and his "process" is profound. The story goes that it came in to existence back at Michigan State. They were not a very good football team and Ohio State was number 1 at the time. So instead of focusing on all the ways they didn't match up, they challenged the players to focus on one play at a time.
“Don’t look at the scoreboard, don’t look at any external factors, just all your focus and all your concentration, all your effort, all your toughness, all your discipline to execute went into that particular play. Regardless of what happened on that play, success or failure, you would move on to the next play and have the same focus to do that on the next play, and you’d then do that for 60 minutes in a game and then you’d be able to live with the results regardless of what those results were.”
They ended up winning the game and ultimately a new philosophy was born. However as I really think through this...it's not a new philosophy at all...it wasn't invented by Nick Saban. It has been God's command for us from the very beginning. To give our very best always, as if each moment, each hour, each minute has a life of its own. Because the reality is that it does. It is God's gift to us and it is precious. To truly trust God is to honor him and give the very best of what we have to give...flawed and as imperfect as it may be. To do this every moment of every day is God's call on our lives...what would life really be if I truly surrendered to this call?
Do I believe or do I not...If I believe then I will trust and I will act...

43“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbori and hate your enemy.’ 44But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
