“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.” ~ Mark Twain

DEUTERONOMY 1, 2

29Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

MARK 11:1-19

15On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’c ? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’d ”

JOURNAL

Here in words it is evident how God is Fathering the Israelites and how Jesus is fathering his followers. God is there with them, taking charge when he needs to take charge but also pushing them to act and obey. Jesus gets angry and shows his emotion. God reminds the Israelites of his faithfulness. This isn't just a set of rules and stories it is intentional and relational.
