“Love each other dearly always. There is scarcely anything else in the world but that: to love one another.”

― Victor Hugo

DANIEL 1-2

27Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, 28but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed are these: (2:27-28)

1 JOHN 2

9Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sisterb is still in the darkness. 10Anyone who loves their brother and sisterc lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them...

...15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Fatherd is not in them. 16For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

JOURNAL

Lately I have been struck by a simple but powerful truth. Every single day I have the chance to make magic. Not the fantasy kind but the kind that happens when I choose to make things better in my classroom, my community, my relationships, and my health. Every time I choose to do good something shifts inside me. My mind responds with its own surge of good chemicals and that momentum begins to spill into everything else. Do good and goodness grows. Choose love and love multiplies.

Victor Hugo said it beautifully:
“Love each other dearly always. There is scarcely anything else in the world but that, to love one another.”

Daniel understood this too. When he stood before Nebuchadnezzar and admitted that no human wise man or magician could explain the mystery, he was not shrinking. He was pointing to the true source of revelation. There is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. The same God who reveals mysteries also reveals light, and the clearest sign of that light is love.

John makes this unmistakable in his letter. Anyone who claims to be in the light but harbors hate is still walking in darkness. Anyone who loves their brother or sister lives in the light and there is nothing in them that makes them stumble. This becomes a daily guide for us, not a weapon to accuse others but a mirror for examining our own hearts.

So this morning I asked myself a few simple questions. Am I carrying hate toward anyone. Am I loving the world and its promises of possessions and power more than God and the people He has given me. Am I giving love or am I trying to extract it from something that cannot provide it.

Whenever I find myself seeking love from achievements or approval or control, I know I am drifting toward darkness. But when I choose to give love the world brightens. My mind settles. The momentum returns. Something in my spirit awakens.

This is where the daily magic begins. Love moves me toward the light. Love aligns me with God’s heart. Love awakens me to life and all its possibilities.

Jesus summed it up in a way that leaves no confusion. Love God with everything. Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

This is the thread running through Scripture. This is the energy that fuels a meaningful life. This is the God breathed mystery that Daniel glimpsed and John articulated. To live in the light is to love.

And every time I choose that love today in any small way I create a holy momentum that reshapes my world and the worlds of those around me. Every day I get to help create that magic. Even  when its not complete or perfect...just the act of beginning and doing small things...it's all part of the process and the process is the "magic".

29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.e 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’f 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’g There is no commandment greater than these.”
