“We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that He should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at His love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.”
2 KINGS 18-19
14Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. 15And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. 16Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God.17“It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. 18They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. 19Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”(19:14-19)JOHN 6:22-44
35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”JOURNAL
God uses ways and means that public opinion would dismiss as absurd to do the miraculous. God answers Hezekiah's prayer and kills 180,000 assyrians in the middle of the night. Jesus affirms that it is God's will that he is here to do...not his own. This lowly obscure, man becomes the spiritual savior of the world and his death on a lowly cross becomes the most recognized symbol in all the world.
God always seems to defy, what is expected. This is the God I worship, this is the God who declares his love for me. Why would I question him, or even think about seeking any other way but his. God created me to live today, in service of him. Yet his desire is that I do it as me...not like someone else. He created me with a role only I can fill. To question it or to shrink back from it is to question God himself.
