“The proud person always wants to do the right thing, the great thing. But because he wants to do it in his own strength, he is fighting not with man, but with God.”~ Soren Kierkegaard
JUDGES 20,21
Civil war breaks out and most of the tribe of Benjamin is destroyed...
46On that day twenty-five thousand Benjamite swordsmen fell, all of them valiant fighters. 47But six hundred of them turned and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, where they stayed four months. 48The men of Israel went back to Benjamin and put all the towns to the sword, including the animals and everything else they found. All the towns they came across they set on fire.
13Then the whole assembly sent an offer of peace to the Benjamites at the rock of Rimmon. 14So the Benjamites returned at that time and were given the women of Jabesh Gilead who had been spared. But there were not enough for all of them.
15The people grieved for Benjamin, because the Lord had made a gap in the tribes of Israel.
Jesus confirms that God is for us but in his love desires that we obey him...LUKE 11:1-28
9“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.11“Which of you fathers, if your son asks forf a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”
28He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
JOURNAL
The word of God is given so that we will learn from history, we will learn from the experiences of God's people and their encounter with God. Scripture is amazingly powerful in its honesty, vulnerability and love. We get to see behind the curtain of God's love for us.
God desires to give us his spirit...he desires for us to trust him and let him love us but we must surrender our hearts to him and him alone.

5Trust in the Lord with all your heartand lean not on your own understanding;6in all your ways submit to him,
