“If you are going through hell, keep going.”  ~ Winston Churchill

GENESIS 38-40

Judah leaves his brothers and moves to the land of Adullum and marries a canaanite woman.  Chapter 38 tells the strange story of Tamar and her bizarre relationship with Judah.  She is his daughter-in-law whom is widowed.  She tricks Judah into sleeping with her and then reveals his lack of character and fulfillment of his word and oath.

Chapter 39 picks up the story of Joseph and his rise to power and then his integrity in refusing to sleep with Potiphar's wife.  She becomes enraged after one episode and uses his haste in running away from her to falsely indict him due to him leaving his robe behind.

After Joseph is in prison he gets the opportunity to interpret two of Pharaoh's convicted servants dreams.  Both promise to remember him and to affirm him to Pharaoh.  However, one is killed and the other forgets.  So Joseph continues to remain in prison.

MATTHEW 12:22-50

Jesus is again questioned by the Pharisees and they try to trap him.  Jesus warns them that words can reveal the true objective of the heart.
For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him...For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.(34-37)
They then ask for a miraculous sign and he then responds.
A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it...(39)

JOURNAL

Joseph is having to endure immense disappointment and suffering.  Not only has he been abandoned and sold by his brothers, he has continually been wrongly accused, convicted and forgotten.  Yet Joseph continues to trust God.

Amazing, this can only be attributed to God and him giving Joseph the courage and heart to persist.  I don't know how else this would be possible, to continue to have hope when everyone and even God seems to abandon.

This is such a God thing. Only God can take something that to man's knowledge would produce discouragement and actually use it to create perseverance.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. (James 1:2-3)
